NCRYPT

NCRYPT is a branding & rebranding experiment for a "morally ambiguous" encryption service. I invented the company and its history based off two words drawn from a hat: “digital” and “mask”. Spanning the market first as dark web “darlings”– generating both a cult-like status and street level cache–to a stalwart public service company, obviously its brand would have to adjust as its market broadened.

 

 

Original Mark 2015

Digital integrity, hyper-vigilance and cunning in one symbol.

 

NCRYPT’s T-shirt itself was a cult hit. Especially among skaters, like her.

 

Rebrand 2017

The rebrand’s purpose is manifold: it attempts to broaden NCRYPT’s market, reassure past customers it’s still cutting edge, all the while winking at it’s prior semi-obscure cult status. It features coded messages in a Brutalist “textural” style and an Enigma-machine influenced word mark.
